![]() ![]() His career is proof that grassroots activism works and can be sustained. Cameron Driggersīernie was the microphone from which we could all speak. The fight for equity and justice for all continues. I will not concede his vision for America, not in November, and not in any years to come. He showed us what it’s like to grab the elephant by its tusks, and to not be shaken. Left-leaning politics in America will never be the same, thanks to Bernie Sanders. No one inherently deserves the highest office in the country, yet Sanders has continually shown us that he will work to earn it. His political career has shown us that there are more individuals who share the drive to make this country more progressive. Sanders’s efforts to make the world a better place caused me to be more active in my community. This election cycle has radicalized me way more. I will write in Bernie and vote blue for the rest of my ballot, but I cannot live with myself if I chose to vote for an alleged sexual predator. Cameron Lexaīernie Sanders is the only politician I have ever felt actually cared about people. It has been heartbreaking to see how much effort has been made by institutions and individuals to tear down the Sanders campaign, but it is far from over. I will vote for Biden in November to get Trump out of office. Sanders’s campaign is for the only candidate I feel truly stands for what he believes in, as demonstrated by his life’s work. If they don't succeed, I have doubts that Biden will be able to win. I just really hope the Democratic establishment makes the effort to unify. I believe that he's the only reason the Democratic Party is having conversations about universal health care and student loan forgiveness. It’s easy (and, I think, correct) to be disillusioned with electoral politics, but Bernie showed us that a fight for change within the system is possible. I work in a library frequented by homeless patrons, and it meant a lot to me to be able to (repeatedly) support a candidate who wanted to provide them with housing and health care. Regardless of who is in the White House and the Congress in 2021, I know I’ll need to be part of the opposition. I know now that I can’t trust the people in power to fight for progressive policies. The way his campaign was treated by the Democratic establishment and the media has convinced me to get more politically engaged moving forward. However, Sanders reminded us that it was okay to activate our revolutionary imagination. I have long recognized that my commitment to liberation transcends the Bernie campaign. He was the first politician that felt like he truly cared about the people. Sarah Woodsīernie was the first presidential candidate I’ve ever fully supported. That involves increasing voter turnout, specifically in Generation Z. It’s given me hope that our generation is going to embody the “not me, us” mentality and pay it forward in our politics and everyday lives. Sanders has given the younger generation a wake-up call that our futures do not have to be dictated by the corrupt policies that are currently in place. What is so devastating now is that the “business as usual” candidate makes me feel like maybe I really was silly to have that hope. Bernie let me realize that my feelings of being shunned by older generations politically are valid, and that there is nothing wrong with being hopeful. Dela Rosaīeing a part of rallies and campaign events made me feel so incredibly grounded in my identity. ![]() I’ll vote in the next election because Trump is actually destructive, but the Democrats can’t use the Trump boogeyman forever. Unfortunately, it’s led to me losing more faith in the system. It was refreshing to hear from a politician who spoke about issues pertaining to the Black community beyond buzzwords and actually getting into the causes of systemic issues. My family still plans on supporting Bernie in the primary, but it looks like we will vote for Biden in November. Bernie’s campaign and his loss shows me that the Democratic National Committee has once again failed leftists and our ideas. AdjoaĮven half a century ago, Sanders was fighting for the rights of African Americans like my grandparents. It's hard for me to act like we are in this together when our nation rejected a movement platformed on considering and caring for others. Medicare for all is more than a progressive ideal for me - not only because I have an abundance of health care bills on top of college tuition, but also because I’ve spent so many days in the hospital and, more often than not, the family in the room next to me had it worse. ![]() I am an 18-year-old cancer patient who was just tested for COVID-19 (results pending). I never chose to get sick or become disabled, but I don’t want to let it hurt everything I’ve been able to achieve. Bernie’s campaign meant a voice for those of us who constantly struggle with the costs of a failing health care system, time and time again pleading for payment plans. ![]()
